Justinian
Justinian was the most important emperor of the Byzantine Empire. He ruled with his wife Theodora between 527 and 565. His armies conquered many territories.
But after Justinian's death, the Byzantine Empire lost territory.
The Lombards conquered parts of Italy and the Visigoths expelled the Byzantines from the Iberian Peninsula. Muslims conquered the southern and eastern coasts of the Mediterranean.
